On the face of it, there really isn’t much that separates SBTRKT vocalist Sampha and Australia’s new R&B trio Movement. Movement (stylized as MOVEMENT), a band that resides in Sydney, Australia, is the next group of R&B revivalists to emerge in the ever-changing electronic-garage movement. Back in July of last year the group released their sultry pop single “Feel Real” to the attention of bloggers and labels. While the band have already announced that they have big plans for the coming months, we can’t help but look past the excitement and revisit their sumptuous electronic single.
Behind lyrics that are almost cliché at times, Lewis Wade (this trio’s vocalist) radiates the lyrical sensibilities of Sampha all around. On the musical side of things, that’s where comparisons become even more pronounced. Reeling in bubbly, almost sensual basslines, Movement carry a thick pulsating beat throughout “Feel Real” and establish a very eclectic Jamie XX vibe. Popping and breaking, this highly danceable single moves between R&B and electronic-pop with great ease. The movement in the single (no pun intended) is light, airy and completely refreshing. If you don’t find yourself bustin’ a move, or tapping your foot after listening to this single, you may seriously have to readjust just perception of what “catchy” really is. “You make me feel real, yeah, yeahh, yeahhh…” — it really doesn’t get more intoxicating than that.
