What's This?

Penny & Sparrow is an Austin two-piece made up of Andy Baxter and Kyle Jahnke. They have one EP out thus far, Creature, and they are currently working on their first LP already dubbed Tenboom. Their folk stylings, and beautiful Bon Iver-esque vocals are the perfect components for a great new record in the fall. It is a very unexpected sound, but it is so honest. It puts forth a bold, yet safe, sound, and you know that these guys are really in their own music. They believe in it.

This single, “Heroes And Monsters,” is a musical narrative of who we are, or how we are. We all are heroes at times and we can be monsters at others. This Jekyll/Hyde complex that we all seem to have is summed up in Josh Riebock’s book, Heroes And Monsters, where this song was derived from: “That’s all of us. That’s me. None of us are immune to being ugly. All thieves can be generous, and yeah, even the kindest person hates. We’re arsonists and architects.”

It is real. It is beautiful.
