Phoenix - Chloroform

We didn’t think we would be getting another track from Phoenix this soon, but I guess in this day-and-age with leaked music, we shouldn’t be surprised.

“Chloroform,” the follow-up to the asian-styled pop track “Entertainment” that the band gave us last week, is a much softer and slower burning single than we’re used to hearing out of the band. Heavy drudging synths drag along the verses while a gauzy expansion of chillwave drips down the chorus. At one point — the end to be specific — we get a slow melancholic flute number that hints of Christopher Owens‘ “Lysandre’s Theme.”

In other words, if you thought you knew Phoenix going into this new album, you may be surprised to find out that the band has ditched their uptempo dance sensibilities, and gone with a much more chilling electronic vibe. We’re digging it! What about you?!
