Poetic Thrust might look young, but at this point they’re really veterans of Brooklyn’s live hip-hop scene. The seven-piece ensemble meld experimental, improvised jazz with high energy rap music. Formed originally while State University of New York at Purchase, the jazz heads and rappers have performed a weekly residency at South Williamsburg bar Loosie Rouge for the past few years. The result is some of the most graceful, danceable, thought-provoking hip-hop we’ve ever come across.
The newest Poetic Thrust single “Salty” is a thrilling composite of everything they do best: bombastic electronic production, funky horn/sax/trombone licks, progressive jazz interludes, resonant frequencies made for gettin’ down. Listen.
