Brighton band SAFE TO SWIM‘s new single “Stop” is the first release from their debut EP, 20 Years, scheduled to drop on April 8th. “Stop” starts out like a shark in water, moving purposely and powerfully with a heavy bass line and lazy, crashing drums that drop into a catchy melody. The track feels like a blurring of British punk legacies, distilled with American grunge and garage rock smirks with the weariness of youth. Lyrics echo ambivalently over fuzzy upbeat chords: “And I love you/But I hate it/Stop/ I’ve lost my faith in you/’Cause you just can’t seem to stop/I’m in over my head with you.”
SAFE TO SWIM has a release party and a series of shows over the next few months in the U.K., supporting their forthcoming EP. Listen to “Stop” below.
