What's This?

On October 9, Hardly Art Records dropped the eagerly anticipated third album by Detroit post-punkers Protomartyr. The record, which follows last year’s Under Color of Official Right, maintains their heavy, industrial-type grit while offering a brighter new palette of timbres and melodies which hint ever so slightly toward the New York City’s 70s-era disco-by-way-of-punk scene. But aside from these admittedly more glamed-up rock numbers, Protomartyr’s The Agent Intellect is a generally more uptempo piece of music–like the record’s third track “I Forgive You,” which picks up with a fiery tumult of razor sharp guitar riffs and fuzzy synthesizers. Listen to the track along with the temperamental B-sider “Dope Cloud” below, and stream the record (It’s absolutely nutso!).

Watch Protomartyr perform “Cowards Starve” at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
