What's This?

The cassette tape wielding, Brooklyn-via-Baltimore based electronic producer Ricky Eat Acid (aka Sam Ray) released his very first standalone single this week. Hashtagged on SoundCloud with “#dante’s inferno themed sextape,” “Context” is a fierce but unassuming whirlwind of ethereal textures and skewered samples. Even with the dance-driven, glitched-out and nightmarish visions of Sun Over Hills EP in hindsight, “Context” is a decidedly out of context release among the producer’s introspective catalogue. Fueled by surging drum and bass and pulsating dub, this out of character single might be one Ricky Eat Acid‘s most substantive. “Context” is due January 20 via Canvasclub and will be accompanied by the B-side “Walking Around a Garden at Night.” Stream Sun Over Hills and “Context” below.
