What's This?

You may have never heard the name Royce Wood Junior before, but it’s very likely you’ve heard his music without even knowing it. Over the past few months, Junior has been making a name for himself around London and the surrounding regions with genre-defying productions for everyone from Kwabs to Rosie Lowe. But with his debut album, The Ashen Tang, on the horizon, he has taken steps to prove that he can cut it as a singer, as well as a producer.

On “Valentine Virus Part II (Ode to Prod),” the final track from Junior’s latest EP, Rover, we see the Londoner step out of his comfort zone (if you could call it that), and embrace his softer side. With a slow-moving backdrop to lean on, Junior confesses, “I got that saccharine sickness / You know I got it from you / Only lovers can get dumb from it / Nothing the chemist can do,” before helplessly cooing, “It’s all just to be with you again.” Poetic stuff.
