Don’t be deceived by the title, “Pretty Little Gangster” is more than just another sugar-spun pop anthem. Quite the contrary, this song packs a serious indie-rock punch with a definite edge. Gliding overtop of the peppy beat, Ryder works her way up from a quiet croon to an aggressive pitch before settling into the chorus. With such a diverse range, you can see why we’re left wanting more.
“Pretty Little Gangster” is in fact the first solo outing we’ve heard from Ryder. Before breaking out on her own, this former queen of the dancefloor made appearances on Dyro‘s “Calling Out” and Blasterjaxx/DBSTF‘s mega-hit, “Beautiful World.” While her vocals stood out on the two aforementioned singles, “Pretty Little Gangster” is our first real taste of what’s to come. Although we haven’t yet heard much from this Los Angeles-based songstress, it’s becoming increasingly clear that you had better watch out for her.
