New York-based singer-songwriter and producer Scott James is steadily unveiling music he’s worked on over the past year. The 21 year-old L.A. native’s last offering, “Ropes,” was proggy, string-centered rock ballad by way of Radiohead and Grizzly Bear. James’ latest is a stark shift away from “Ropes,” a cosmic R&B banger called “In The Passing.” Here, trap rhythms and synthesizer arpeggios take the fore over roiling guitar riffs and striking falsettos, starting small but finishing big. It’s a fresh, exciting sound that could easily give acts like Miguel a run for their money. Stream both tracks below.
