What's This?

Annie Clark is vicious. And on “Krokodil,” you can really see that different side of her. Released with another track, (“GROT”), on Record Store Day, the two tracks come as A-sides off of her latest record, Strange Mercy.

Here, Mrs. Clark, or if you haven’t already figured it out, St. Vincent, is refreshingly creative and flexible with her sound. While both tracks are super heavy, Annie’s screaming of ‘I want to bite,’ is well beyond believable, and is a perfect front for the gravelly backdrop.

For those of you who are familiar with the band’s pop-collared hit “Cruel,” “Krokodil” may be a bit of a directional change and come off as either, terrifying or… well, really terrifying. Despite this change in appeal, there lingers a deep fear-based respect for Annie and the band, as St. Vincent truly is a conglomerate of wonderful musicians. And, while this Bobkat-wielding babe continues to grow as a musician, “Krokodil” will certainly help Annie draw a greater fanbase everywhere she goes.
