What's This?

If I’m to be completely honest, I am a little disappointed I didn’t get the pleasure of premiering Shad and Skratch Bastid‘s brand new collaborative EP, The Spring Up. As a devout Shad fan, I have been eagerly anticipating the release of The Spring Up for a while now, but I never began to think that it would turn out as well as this.

Skratch Bastid, who should be duly accredited for the successful production quality of this EP, is back to what he does best spinning, and of course skratching scratching vinyls together to forge a classic hip-hop sound perfectly suited for Shad. Thanks to his adept skill level and his nostalgic style, Skratch Bastid has been able to create beats which pose as the perfect soapbox for Shad, who is able spit out bars with a much more aggressive (if you could call it that) delivery than usual and even wind-up sounding like DOOM in “Clappin.” And, although it may be a bit of a stretch, this EP has left us hopeful that Shad will carry this sense of assertiveness into his forthcoming full-length album which we expect to be released within the coming months.

For now, though, you can stream and download The Spring Up for free via Skratch Bastid’s Soundcloud [here].
