What's This?

“Grey,” off Thomston’s sophomore EP Backbone, is a track that aches with the reality of growing up. Nearly unsettling lyrics catalogue a romanticized personality and work in symphony with Thomston’s idiosyncratic R&B, off-kilter pop sporting eerie-but-alluring whisper-vocals. A simple but grave production unfolds underneath admissions of a mix of admiration turned wonder looking forward, “I’m amazed by the places you chase/ Got a glint where most are dead/ Because you know what lies ahead.” The nineteen-year-old New Zealand native Thomas Stone confronts futures unknown with grace on this remarkable four-minute release.
