We’re positively thrilled to introduce NYC singer-songwriter Tiff Ortiz and to premiere the lead single from her gorgeous forthcoming full-length, Paint The Day. Album opener “Chili Pepper Water” is a sweeping rock ballad that deconstructs heartbreak from a place of power. Below Tiff Ortiz’s commanding voice lies the tranquil ebb and flow of whirling psych-pop synths and dreamy surf rock riffs. But the real treat on “Chili Pepper Water” is her vocals, the way she greets its production with a colossal force of soul. “Oh/ At least I had a chance to feel something,” she howls at the chorus, the weight of her sadness and ultimate solace palpable with every syllable.
IC has been a fan of Tiff Ortiz since her days in writing and performing with Throw Vision, an experimental pop-funk outfit that also included Taja Cheek (of L’Rain). Her full album will be released August 31st. Pre-order it here. And if you’re in NYC, don’t miss Tiff’s album release party on August 31st at C’Mon Everybody, co-presented by Indie Current.
