Hollie Fullbrook, Alex Freer, Cass Basil, and Tom Healy make up the New Zealand folk band Tiny Ruins. Last year the group surprised and impressed critics with the colorful yet somber LP Brightly Painted One. The band has an upcoming EP which only features Fullbrook in collaboration with Hamish Kilgour. Just weeks ago the pair released a track entitled “Hurtling Through“, the first cut from the new project. On this new song, gone but not forgotten is Tiny Ruin’s signature sleepy and minimalistic style. In it’s place is a gorgeous blend of sparse acoustic strumming, glittering bells, and mellow percussion. Coupled with Fullbrook’s resigned yet earnest vocal delivery, the track is a slow build of nostalgia that demands to accompany an early morning sunrise after a lonely night.
The Hurtling Through EP will drop November 27 via Bella Union, Flying Nun, & Spunk Records. Stream two cuts from Tiny Ruins’ Brightly Painted One LP.
