In two short years, Tourist has become one of the most prominent producers in electronic music. His shifty, palpable beat-work has become synonymous with everyone’s favourite music channel, and has even garnered him enough attention that Disclosure has added him to their new label, Method. Having been heralded as one of the top acts to watch out for in 2014 by numerous tastemakers and artists alike, Tourist is off to good start, but he couldn’t keep the hype-train going without a bit of fuel.
Adding to the success that was brought on by his previous single “Together,” Tourist brings us “I Can’t Keep Up.” This newest offering is driven by a perpetually moving bassline and a swirly arrangement of synths. What makes this release so unique, however, is that it doesn’t include any synthetic vocals. Instead, Tourist has gone down a more traditional route, enlisting the help of singer/songwriter Will Heard. After doing his thing for the greater portion of three minutes, Heard plants his feet firmly on the ground before he is swept into the heavens by the rhythmic chug of an early ’80s dance beat.
