There’s a lot of music to look forward to in 2016, but the biggest release for us here at IC, is William Philips’ debut album as Tourist. Originally planned for release last summer, U was pushed back almost a year due to delays in the writing process. While it was an unexpected setback, it meant there was more time for music making and the occasional trip into the wilderness—which, by the sounds of Williams’ latest output, had a considerable influence on his recordings. Reminiscent of previous singles “Waves” and “Wait,” “To Have You Back” is a welcome step out of the producer’s creative box. A mix of both organic and electronic production, it runs like a well-oiled machine, building up to a glitchy, synth-induced breakdown.
