Portland’s Typhoon are hardly known for their covers (if they even have any), but that hasn’t stopped them from tackling Frank Ocean‘s prodigious ballad, “Thinking About You.” Even without the sensual texture of Ocean‘s vocals, the band fair mightily well in this rendition thanks to Kyle Morton who picks up role of lead vocalist. Under his rough, yet soft and warmly lit tone, Morton pulls the track forward without sounding overburdened or drawn back from the quick-paced lyrical structure. Furthermore, Morton and the rest of the band keep the emotional nature of the original intact. But what is a Typhoon song without a triumphant buildup? Luckily for us, the group haven’t strayed too far from their folk roots and have thus levelled the song off with a few defining notes near the end.
If you don’t find this cover within your likings, then I highly suggest you dip into the band’s soon-to-be-released album, White Lighter, and its first couple of singles, “Young Fathers” and “Dreams of Cannibalism” down below:
