What's This?

There’s a lot of truth behind the name nosnow/noalps. The band hails from a country where it doesn’t snow, but wherever this independent four-piece make music, it’s of a distinctively alpine quality.

Forming back in 2007, nosnow/noalps had already begun with a mountainious start as they released their first EP Just Rock the following year. From that EP, singles such as “Taking My Time” and “Headset” went to create huge success in the local Maltese music scene and eventually led to both singles being nominated at the Malta Music Awards and Bay Music Awards. Their third track “Headset” added to their already substantial success, and went on to become the soundtrack of MTV’s Mobile advertising campaign in Malta.

In 2010 they released their long awaited album ROMANTIKPOLITIK. The album’s single “Far Into The Night (Without You),” reached the No.1 spot for three weeks in Malta. The album’s sleeve won the award for “Best CD Sleeve” at the Malta Music Awards getting the nod for best image. The band became quickly noticed as they started headlining festivals such as Isle of MTV Music week and other local festivals and award ceremonies. This proved fruitful to them as they started touring around Europe in cities such as London, Paris, Milan, and Copenhagen.

It was the last city, however, that the band decided to make home for a few months in 2013, together with a new lineup of band members. With Nicky Morales on vocals, Benji Cachia on drums, and Sarah Falzon on keyboards, the band decided to add another two members which now includes Bertram Cachia on bass, and Mia on synths. The band have been quite busy during their time in Hamlet’s city, as they landed themselves on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in Italy, and have also released a new single called “N.E.W.” with gritty guitar riffs, and Nicky’s rough westernized vocals, the song is an uplifting indie-pop tune, that keep their ska and reggae roots well intact.

Apparently the song has a hidden message behind it. As Nicky confessed to me, and indeed as with lyrics “A new day, a new life,” the band is surely entering a new phase of life, with a second album in the works, and a tour that includes Copenhagen, London, Malta, and a large part of Italy. Watch the visually eclectic, throwback-themed music video for “N.E.W.” below:
