For some of us, there’s no greater challenge in life than leaving your loved ones behind in order to experience what life has to offer. But for others, it’s a rite of passage. Last year, Australian singer/songwriter Riley Pearce said “goodbye” to his friends and family in Perth and settled down somewhere in Montana. For six months, he immersed himself in nature, hoping to clear his mind and ignite his creative spark. But while he had hoped to find it in his surroundings, his friends and family proved to be the greatest source of inspiration.
In the video for “Brave,” the first single from Pearce’s sophomore EP Outside the Lines, director Christian Niddrie captures the intense emotional struggle that comes with letting go. This simple, yet effective visual follows a young couple that must cope with the fact that they will be separated for an extended period of time. While both actors put on a moving performance, Pearce commands the spotlight with his big, brooding voice. As the drums roll and the horns begin to swell, the singer pours every ounce of his strength into the final line, promising those back home “I’ll be coming back for you.”
