When listening to Oxford’s dark new indie-rock outfit, Wild Swim, it becomes hard to pinpoint just what makes the band’s heavy eletro-infused sound just so enticing. On the face of it, there isn’t really anything exorbitantly “out there” that really stands out, however, the baroque-style vocals and mild resemblance to Foals and Alt-J might be the source of our excitement.
After listening to “Another Night,” the first cut from the band’s upcoming 7″, you get a deep sense of the band’s eagerness to mould their sound into something unique. During the opening moments of this new release, The xx-styled guitar work shifts from a monotonous baseline to a very technical riff without a shade of expectation. Similarly, the closing portion of this track finds the band pressing out gauzy, distorted effects shortly after a pounding drum section. Not a bad effort for a band that spends most of its time confined within the walls of a university.
