Calgary’s Viet Cong features two ex-members of the once marvelous noise-rockers Women. The band, whose self-titled debut is out January 20th via Jagjaguwar/Flemish Eye, have given us a raucous “Continental Shelf”.
The song definitely isn’t short of guitars. It enters with a bank of single chord sludge, progressing to a split of fiddly, lead jinks. The dense drums beat to a tribal design, with bass player and ex-Womener Matt Flegel taking charge of vocal duties. “When all is said and done,” he proclaims “You’ll be around until you’re gone.”
