New York is absolutely teeming with young and talented individuals, but all too often do they go unnoticed and unappreciated. Vocalists Emma Schlamme and Vinson Fraley, drummer Dillon Treacy and guitarist Mike Haldeman are among them. In this rough live recording, the four artists culminate their skills in gorgeous rendition of UK artist-producer Kwabs‘ “Last Stand.”
Emma and Vinson trade off on vocal duties, each coloring Kwabs‘ beautifully harrowing melody with their own shades of salient soul, but they sound the most succinct when the two parts meld together as one sensual whole. The stripped down cover opens up the sonic terrain for Mike and Dillon to add their own sonic embellishments, hazy and sparse but nonetheless rousing. The two instrumentalists record music with two other local New York artists as Alto Palo, and Haldeman also lends a hand in the neo-soul stylings of The Space Captain. Watch above.
