What's This?

The pop world is a busy place right now. Over the past few months, we’ve seen more than a few talented songwriters come out of the cracks, which has made it nearly impossible to stay on top of it all. One artist we’ve been quietly watching from afar goes by the name of YATES—at least, we think so. Debut single, “MAKO,” saw the wavy-haired Australian playing in Blood Orange‘s corner, but with his latest offering, “VIRTUE,” YATES has set his sights on the Mediterranean. Undoubtedly drawing inspiration from the Balkans, YATES opens up the song with a mandolin and a few elegantly placed piano chords, before he sweeps us off our feet. As the song progresses, we are tugged further and further into the sea, which isn’t exactly a “bad” thing when you take a look outside.
